#ChanningTatum to play 'MERMAID' in #Splash reboot! [details]

Channing Tatum has played MANY a ROLE in his DAY, so what do you think he should do next--play a MERMAID, right?  I knew that is what came to your mind.  Maybe not.

On Tuesday, PEOPLE confirmed that Channing Tatum will star in a reboot of 1984's Splash as … the mermaid.

Tatum, who'll star alongside Jillian Bell, will tackle the role he has been training his whole life to play. In the original, a young man (Tom Hanks) reunites with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) who saved him from drowning as a child, but in the remake, the genders will be swapped. Hence, Tatum as merman.

The original film, which was directed by Ron Howard, starred Darrell Hannah, Tom Hanks, John Candy, Eugene Levy and Dody Goodman.  It has been described as a "intriguing take" on the original movie, which Bell — who co-starred alongside Tatum in "22 Jump Street" — reportedly pitched to executive producer Ron Howard.

Deadline reports no director has been attached to the movie yet, with the script to be written by "Liked" screenwriter Marja-Lewis Ryan.
The Hollywood industry site described the "Splash" plot as "strong enough to be reintroduced to a new audience."

The GENDER-REVERSED movie sounds INTERESTING on paper, right.... WE'LL SEE...
