Despite an early release of the album and a non-traditional marketing strategy, Frank Ocean's 'Channel Orange' managed to debut at #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 Charts!!! Ocean moved an estimated 130k units. This is a great feat in these days and not to mention, he has no radio single out and he was released exclusively to iTunes. The disc was/is a solid piece of music and it didn't hurt that the rising star created all kinds of BUZZ after his open letter to his fans.
Now let's compare for a moment, shall we? Usher and Chris Brown are both established stars, with a monster of a marketing budget and they only managed to sell in that same range. Plus, Usher and Chris Brown both came off of huge television performances prior to the release of their discs, respectively. Just imagine if Ocean would have had that type of marketing what his numbers would've been? If you don't have the disc, its a must have. And while you are there, pick up Usher's 'Looking 4 Myself' and Chris Brown's, 'Fortune' as well.
But congratulations are most definitely in order for Frank Ocean on his # 2 debut!!!
